The mechanics:

25 players. Each person will ‘be’ a word – it’ll be stuck onto you on a lanyard. There are 2 spymasters who give the clues – red and blue. It is no longer a team game – everyone is guessing which words belong to which colour.

You will have a sheet on which you write down which words you think belong to Blue/Red/Neutral/Assassin. The clues are read out & written up on a whiteboard and you mingle around looking at what words people have. You have between 30seconds and a minute to write down your thoughts before the next clue is given. Once all clues are read out you will have a final 30-60 seconds then you will swap with someone for scoring.

If you got the assassin in your red/blue/neutral list you’re out for that round! Then all correct guesses score 1 point (only reds & blues count). Bonus point if you got the assassin right.

We will have 1 or 2 practice rounds, so that people get the hang of it. We’ll start with 60 seconds and see how we go, tightening it up as we progress.

3 rounds:

  • Round 1: random words
  • Round 2: random words
  • Round 3: SPY words

The winning conditions:

Your total score from all 3 rounds will be added together to find the winner (so remember to hand in your sheet at the end of each round). Ties will be decided by

  1. Anyone who got killed by the assassin loses
  2. Most guesses of the assassin correct
  3. Least wrong guesses (excluding assassin)
  4. A dice roll-off.

Introduction To

Hallowed Festival of Frights

{event-start}

A manor that speaks of old money grandeur sits slowly decaying on a large overgrown section. The owners have all long ago departed in bloody circumstances surrounded by rumours and fear. Considered haunted and cursed it’s been left to fall into disrepair. No one ever goes into Schwartzkonig Manor, or if they do, they’ve never come back out to say so. It’s the perfect place for a bunch of teens to tease each other about being too chicken to enter, especially on the day of the most spooky celebration in Isen. Until one of them actually does.

Now you’re standing outside the gates and you can feel the Manor’s eyes on you …waiting to see what you’ll do. It’s up to you to save your friend. Will you be brave enough to enter? Will you survive what’s inside?

Set in the homebrewed World of Isen, created by Brad Zimmerman. Session DM’d by Julz Burgisser who plays Marley Kraff in the D&D 5e actual play podcast ‘Fate of Isen’ available for download on iTunes, Spotify and all good podcasting apps. See www.fateofisen.com for more details on Isen.

This year at Wellycon, for the first time, we will be hosting several Intro to Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) sessions. So if you have ever been curious about learning to play tabletop roleplaying, come along to one of the four sessions offered each day; 10:30am, 1pm, 4pm, 6pm. Space is limited.

D&D is a cooperative storytelling roleplay experience in which players take on fantastical roles such as fighters, rogues, and wizards to overcome challenges set up by the Dungeon Master. Humans have always been gathering around to tell stories together, but no one said the stories had to always be about humans.

Join us as mighty heroes to help a talking sheep, plumb the tomb of the Monkey King or enter a haunted house to rescue a friend. No preparation needed. Bring yourself and your adventuring spirit and we’ll do the rest.

Introduction To

Wild Sheep Chase

{event-start}

The party’s attempt to grab a rare afternoon of downtime is interrupted by the sound of clattering hooves, surprised yelps and a frantic bleating.

Before the party can react, a sheep bounds towards them. The beast appears to be a regular sheep in every way – fluffy white coat, black face, curled horns – but it is carrying an elaborate scroll in its mouth.

This sheep is now blocking your way and is desperately trying to get your attention.

During the medieval goings-on around Orléans, you must assemble a following of farmers, merchants, knights, monks, etc. to gain supremacy through trade, construction and science in medieval France.

In the city of Orléans and the area of the Loire, you can take trade trips to other cities to acquire coveted goods and build trading posts. You need followers and their abilities to expand your dominance by putting them to work as traders, builders, and scientists. Knights expand your scope of action and secure your mercantile expeditions. Craftsmen build trading stations and tools to facilitate work. Scholars make progress in science, and last but not least it cannot hurt to get active in monasteries since with monks on your side you are much less likely to fall prey to fate.

In Orléans, you will always want to take more actions than possible, and there are many paths to victory. The challenge is to combine all elements as best as possible with regard to your strategy. [BGG]

Pandemic Survival is an extreme version of Pandemic, where up to twelve teams of two players face each other simultaneously with the same objective in mind: Be the first team to find all four cures or be the sole survivor at the end of the game.

During this unique Organised Play experience, each team faces the same starting situation: identical roles, infected cities, and the same player cards in the same order. Only each team’s strategic choices will differentiate them and prove a winning—or losing—strategy.

What is the greatest MegaCorp in existence? On Sunday we aim to find out!

In this Terraforming Mars Mega Event you will pick your Corp at the start of the day and then play that Corp for 3 games, so choose wisely. Each player will choose a different Corp. But some Corps are clearly better that others you say? The better corps will start at 19 TR and the really poor ones will start at 21 TR. The middle ones will start at 20 TR as normal. Players will pick secretly, and then reveal after the draft in the first round. The first round will be a draft, but the other rounds will not. Drafting will be opening hand as well as research.

The tournament will take place over 3 rounds. At about 3 hours per game, this will take most of the day. At least one of the games will feature all the expansions including colonies.

Scoring will be (in 4 player games) 4 for 1st, 3 for 2nd, 2 for 3rd and 1 for 4th. In addition, if 2nd, 3rd or 4th is is within 10% of the 1st place score, they get a bonus point. If 2nd place doesn’t get a bonus point, 1st does. In the event there is a tie, total points over 3 games will be the tie break.

What’s a Mega Event? A Mega Event is a extreme length game typically taking 6 to 10 hours over one or more rounds.
