Wellycon XI was AMAZING – thank you to everyone that came along – YOU made this a great convention!

Wellycon: New Zealand’s biggest, fun, friendly board game convention!

In honour of local Wellingtonian Shem Phillips who was nominated for the International Spiel des Jahres (Game of the Year) with Raiders of the North Sea, the theme this year is:

VIKINGS!

Over the course of Queen’s Birthday weekend 500+ people from 6 to 60 get together to play modern board games. Got a game you’d like to try? Peruse the library of games brought by your fellow players. Or want to meet some designers & have input into a game design? Everyone from Cheeky Parrot to Weta games will be there.

Some of the things on the schedule:

• Sunday Kids session 10-2pm – special events for the kids as well as support to teach them and help them teach each other games.
• Tournaments – tournaments for everything from lifesize Codenames to Ticket To Ride
• Prizes – spot prizes throughout the event
• Play-and-win – try some new games and go into the draw to win them.  This is fast growing to be the biggest section of the event.
• Designers corner – meet some game designers, help them play-test their games and get in on the development action.
• Swap table – find a home for your pre-loved games
• Mega Game – Watch the Skies!
• Twilight Imperium Tournament – yes indeed, the longest game known to man, and in tournament form!
• After-hours late night session – all gaming all night SORRY: SOLD OUT!

As well as some specifically Nordic flavours!

Not far from the railway station, it’s easy to join us for some low-stress, inventive fun. Our volunteers will make you very welcome, with heaps of time to play something old or something new! Bring your gaming buddies or meet some new friends, there’s heaps to choose from. Happy gaming!

TOURNAMENTS- If you’d like to run one, the team can help you make this happen, we have guidelines to support you, and it’s a great way to be involved in the event. Get in touch!

AND … there are some other ideas in the works as well, (like some exclusive game components … shhh!) which we’ll let you know about as they shape up, but until then, climb aboard, strap on your axe and join us for a romp across the boards on June 2nd & 3rd (Queen’s Birthday weekend).
