What games are available?

The library of games are all provided by attendees. It changes every year, but you can rest assured that there will be a fine selection of the latest games as well as classics. We usually have over 1000 games to choose from in the library. These all belong to attendees so please be respectful and make sure all the pieces are put away properly when you’re done.

For Wellycon we are hiring additional games from Board Game Rentals to make sure we have a great selection and multiple copies of the best games. We still ask attendees to bring games to share, to ensure that we have the biggest, best game library available. If there is a game you’d love to see in our library, please message us, and we’ll see what we can do.

Can I bring my own games?

Absolutely! Please bring any games you’d like to share with other attendees.

  • Please label your games with your name if you’re willing to add them to the library.
  • The library is arranged in sections, please add your games to the appropriate sections.
  • Don’t forget to take all your games home with you when you leave. While we endeavour to get games back to their owners we can’t guarantee it!
  • Especially if you are providing multiple games for the library, make sure you have a list  of all of your games.
  • You can email your list of games to info@wellycon.org.nz in before arriving in case games are misplaced during pack-up – this has happened before!

Is the venue wheelchair accessible?

Yes! There is a stage area that isn’t accessible, but only extra gaming tables are currently planned for on-stage, no tournaments, demos or events.

I’d love to come but I can’t afford it this year

Don’t despair, because we’d love for you to come too! You might be eligible for a community ticket. Please get in touch with us. 

Can I learn a new game?

We have volunteers who can teach some games, we also have flags you can bring to your table to indicate that you need help. This year we have a special area set aside to learn some of the more popular games.

Who can I play with?

Anyone! If you hang around the library, you should be able to find others to play with. We also have ‘players needed’ flags, so keep an eye out to see if there are any visible.

What is ‘Play to Win’?

This is where you play a game and go into the draw to win it. We have a large section of play to win games, and these are very popular. Over the course of the event, up to 30 people may play the game, so you have a good chance of winning.

What if I don’t know anyone?

That’s ok. Attendees are a bunch of friendly people who like to play games, you’ll find people to play with in no time. Hang out by the library to find people to play with.

Where is the …?

Check the venue map or ask any of the green shirted volunteers. The front desk can also help you with any queries.

How do I sign up for tournaments?

This year we are posting info on social media, but the actual events are sign-up on the day.

Can I leave my bag somewhere?

We do have an unsupervised bag drop area. All bags are left at own risk.

What should I bring?

You probably want to bring a sturdy drink bottle and maybe some snacks (especially with kids). We totally support bringing your reusable keep-cup and encourage recycling. We have EFTPOS on site for food vendors and game sellers, as well as at the front desk.

I’m hungry and thirsty!

We have fundraising Scouts onsite providing home baking, snacks, light meals, and a delicious variety of hot and cold beverages. You can pre-order a meal when you buy your ticket for the event. You are also welcome to bring your own food and drink. We suggest taking a break for food, there is a microwave in the kitchen and seating available in the dining room. Pak n Save is a block away, and there are some other food sellers within walking distance.

We have a feedback wall, and your feedback helps us to make sure the event is positive for everyone.

Something went wrong, who do I speak to?

That’s unfortunate, please see CD or Adrianne, or any of the committee. If possible try to find us as soon as you realise so we can help resolve the issue. If you can’t find anyone, please go to the front desk, they will be able to contact someone to help.

Who can help me?

We have volunteers wearing green shirts, you can ask any of them to help you, the front desk will always be staffed, and they can also help.

Can I bring my kids?

Yes, children are welcome. It is a family friendly event. We have a family session from 10-12 on Sunday that caters for younger players. Children under 5 must be actively supervised at all times. Children under 14 must have someone on site responsible for them at all times. We have a selection of games that are suitable for younger players.

What is your videography / photography policy? 

Please be advised that photographs will be taken at this event for use on the Wellycon website, for use in promotional and/or marketing materials. By entering the expo, you consent to Wellycon photographing and potentially using your image and likeness for promotional or marketing purposes. Wellycon will have specific photographers and their name-tag will identify them as such.

Otherwise, please do not photograph attendees without consent, or in the case of a minor, the consent of the parent or guardian.
